General Portals

This is the National Library of Medicine's search service that provides access to over 11 million citations in MEDLINE, PreMEDLINE and other related databases, with links to participating online journals.

BME Specific Portals

BME Central: the global hub for biomedical engineering
This is a resource for general information regarding the field of biomedical engineering including the history, career options and specific areas of interest.

Whitaker Foundation
Biomedical Engineering resources and a series of competitive grant programs that support research and education in biomedical engineering at academic institutions.

Center for Biotechnology
Located at Stony Brook University. The Center is involved in the discovery of commercially promising technology resulting from academic research and in the early stage developemt of these technologies.

Cell and Molecular Biology Online
An extensive general resource site for the biology community with an emphasis on information for cell and molecular biologists. The site also maintains a listing of related professional societies.

Regional Labs

Brookhaven National Laboratory
The US Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory creates and operates major facilities available to university, industrial and government personnel for basic and applied research in physical, biomedical and environmental sciences and in selected energy technologies.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a research and educational institution. The Laboratory has research programs focusing on cancer, neurobiology and plant genetics and a broad educational mission, including the recently established Watson School of Biological Sciences.

Polymer Structure Laboratory
The goal of the MRSEC is to combine the instrumentation and expertise of the participating institutions into a coordinated research program on polymers interface science. The principal focus areas include thin films, coatings, nanostructured materials and composites.

Visualization Laboratory
The Visualization Laboratory research involves the development of volume rendering techniques used in scientific visualization and virtual reality applications.

Center for Structural Biology
The center for structural biology houses state-of-the-art facilities for x-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and computation. These facilities provide the tools for solving molecular structures.

Medical Image Processing Laboratory
Conducts investigations in medical image processing and analysis.

SBU Office of Sponsored Programs
The office of sponsored programs helps in assisting in proposal development, reviewing and endorsing proposals, negotiating agreements, interpreting sponsor rules/guidelines, etc. This office houses the University's authorized representatives for grants and contracts from external sponosrs.

SBU Office of Research Development and Assessment
The office of sresearch development and assessment helps in assisting in increasing the competitivness of research applications. Additionally, this office can help matching collaborators and helps to assess research infrastructure.

SBU Office of Grants Management
Once an award has been accepted, the office of grants management helps project directors manage the project, by monitoring financial activity, managing contracts, equipment insurance and effort certification.
